Gridiron Dinner – Peoria, IL
Scenario:
The Gridiron Dinner is an annual 'roast' of local public officials in Peoria, Illinois. Each year the theme is based on the mascot 'devil and hell' images. In 2006 a new master of ceremonies was coming in, as the gentleman who had been doing it for the last 30 years was stepping down. The Gridiron committee was looking to revamp their look and draw in a new up-and-coming crowd with the new speaker. Requirements for the piece were laid out, such as a mail-in reply card and the use of the pre-existing devil ‘icon.’
Elements developed:
Invitation
Boyle Creative developed a ‘Changing of the Guard’ theme to showcase the new Master of Ceremonies. A three-fold invitation was created and the guard silhouettes on the outside were meant to look as though the inside of the invitation was on fire. The inside is done in reverse. Boyle Creative utilized four color printing for this piece and perforated the mail in portion as opposed to having a separate piece.
Postcard
A change of date postcard was required after the initial invitation went out. The planned date happened to fall on the NCAA Sweet 16 basketball game that the local college, Bradley University, was playing in and the committee decided to postpone the event. The postcard was designed in the same theme, but more simplistic, because the original budget had not included two mailings.
